Randy Orton Defeats Cody Rhodes Following Wild Chaos At Sunday Night’s Main Event

Randy Orton picked up a massive victory over Cody Rhodes at Sunday Night’s Main Event in Atlanta, Georgia, relying on a low blow and a recovered official to secure the pinfall following a violent brawl.

The rivalry turned physical before the opening bell, as Rhodes intercepted an attempted ambush from Orton. The two competitors immediately brawled through the crowd and around ringside, utilizing trash cans, steel steps, and the ringside barricade before the match officially began inside the ring.

Brawling, Blood, And Ringside Interference

Once inside, both superstars exchanged signature offense. Rhodes landed a Cody Cutter and locked in a Figure Four Leglock, while Orton focused his attack on Rhodes’ hand and executed two back-to-back backdrop drivers onto the commentary table.

The action escalated at ringside when Orton confronted Rhodes’ family. Brandi Rhodes intervened by throwing a drink directly into Orton’s face, allowing Cody to regain control with a powerslam, Beautiful Disaster, and the Bionic Elbow.

Multiple Ref Offender Bumps & The Controversial Finish

The match descended into complete referee chaos down the stretch:

  • First Referee Down: Rhodes inadvertently knocked out the primary official. Orton immediately executed an RKO, but no referee was available to count the pinfall.
  • Second Referee Down: Rhodes connected with Cross Rhodes before executing a suicide dive to the outside, inadvertently wiping out a secondary official at ringside.
  • Bloody Assault: Rhodes smashed Orton with the steel steps, opening up a deep laceration on Orton’s forehead. After delivering two Cross Rhodes, Rhodes set up for a running kick while Orton was bloodied on his hands and knees.
  • The Viper Strikes: Orton held up his hands and begged for mercy. As Rhodes hesitated and pushed aside a replacement official checking on Orton, The Viper delivered a swift low blow that also downed the official.

Orton immediately followed up with an RKO. The original referee recovered just enough to crawl into position and count the three-count, giving Orton the pinfall victory.
