Following WWE’s widespread roster purge across its developmental pipeline on September 4, 2026, details continue to emerge regarding the internal fallout at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.
While the cuts impacted 10 total personnel—including Adriana Rizzo, PJ Vasa, and former WWE Speed Champion Jasper Troy—the release of veteran star Wendy Choo generated the most significant shockwaves behind the scenes.
PC Roster & Staff “Shocked” By Choo’s Exit
Despite having been utilized in a player-coach capacity for newer recruits on WWE LFG and WWE Evolve, Choo was included on the list of departures, catching many within the locker room completely off guard.
“Apparently the whole PC was shocked that Wendy Choo was released,” reported Bryan Alvarez of F4WOnline.com.
Choo, real name Karen Yu, spent over seven years under contract with WWE after initially appearing in the 2018 Mae Young Classic before signing full-time in February 2019.

Throughout her tenure in NXT, Choo proved to be one of the most versatile performers in developmental, navigating multiple complete character overhauls:
- Karen Q / Mei Ying: Debut run followed by leading the mysterious Tian Sha faction in 2020.
- Wendy Choo: Her most recognizable persona, featuring a pajama-wearing, nap-taking gimmick that led to an NXT Women’s Championship match against Mandy Rose.
- WWE Evolve Championship: Captured the division’s top title in April 2026 before dropping the belt to Nikkita Lyons in June.
Choo’s final televised match for the company occurred on August 17 in a loss to Maxxine Dupri on WWE Main Event. Her absolute final in-ring appearance for WWE took place on August 25 during an NXT television taping, where she competed in a dark match loss against Karmen Petrovic.
