Semifinals Set for AEW Continental Challenge Cup Following Collision

The field is officially set for the semifinals of the Continental Challenge Cup following the August 22 broadcast of AEW Collision. Kyle O’Reilly and Claudio Castagnoli secured the final two spots in the round of four, setting up high-stakes tournament matchups for AEW Dynamite in Glasgow, Scotland.

O’Reilly was the first to advance during the show, forcing fellow Conglomeration member Orange Cassidy to submit to a leg scissors. Later in the evening, Castagnoli secured his spot in the semifinals by forcing Daniel Garcia to submit to a Sharpshooter.

Blind Draw Determines Semifinal Matchups

Following the conclusion of the quarterfinal round, a blind draw was conducted to determine the pairings for Wednesday’s broadcast in Glasgow:

  • Jon Moxley vs. Claudio Castagnoli: Current AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley will collide with fellow Death Riders member Claudio Castagnoli.
  • Kyle O’Reilly vs. Nigel McGuinness: Kyle O’Reilly will face off against Nigel McGuinness for a spot in the finals.

Eddie Kingston Forced Out Due to Medical Issue

Castagnoli’s quarterfinal bout featured a last-minute opponent change. Eddie Kingston was originally scheduled to face Castagnoli after advancing past the previous round, but AEW President Tony Khan announced ahead of the broadcast that Kingston had not been medically cleared to compete.

To determine Kingston’s replacement, AEW added a play-in match at ROH Death Before Dishonor. Daniel Garcia defeated Adam Priest at the event to earn the tournament spot, though he ultimately fell to Castagnoli on Collision.
