Latest on Lucha Bros Possibly Reuniting in WWE – WWE is planting seeds for a major tag team reunion down the line.
Penta and Rey Fenix—collectively known to fans as The Lucha Bros—are now officially part of WWE, but the high-flying siblings have been split across brands for the time being. Penta currently competes on Monday Night RAW, while Fenix has been featured on Friday Night SmackDown. Despite the current brand separation, WWE reportedly has long-term plans to bring the popular duo back together as a tag team.
According to a backstage source, WWE’s decision to separate Penta and Fenix is part of a deliberate strategy. The company aims to showcase each brother as a standalone performer to introduce their unique talents to a wider WWE audience—particularly those unfamiliar with their acclaimed runs in AEW and across the global independent scene.
The plan includes subtle teases and callbacks to their sibling bond, helping maintain the connection between the two while giving fans something to look forward to. On the April 28 edition of WWE RAW, Penta directly referenced The Lucha Bros during a backstage segment. In a confrontation with Chad Gable, Penta warned him never to mention Rey Fenix again, explicitly invoking their team name.
By allowing both men to gain momentum individually, WWE believes their eventual reunion will feel more meaningful—adding emotional and narrative weight to the comeback of The Lucha Bros. This slow-burn approach is intended to elevate their return as a top-tier tag team moment, rather than rushing into it immediately following Fenix’s April 4 debut on SmackDown, which came nearly three months after Penta first appeared on RAW on January 13.
As the build continues, Penta is set for in-ring action on the upcoming May 5 edition of WWE RAW, where he will face JD McDonagh of The Judgment Day. The match takes place at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska, and serves as the red brand’s go-home episode ahead of WWE Backlash: St. Louis, scheduled for May 10 at the Enterprise Center in Missouri.
WWE appears to be playing the long game with The Lucha Bros—building up both brothers individually before unleashing their full potential as a reunited force in the tag team division.
