Former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Asuka and Kairi Sane recently reunited outside the squared circle, coming together to celebrate Sane’s birthday in their first public gathering in several months.
Asuka shared behind-the-scenes footage of the special reunion on her official YouTube channel, documenting the duo exchanging gifts and catching up.
“Happy Birthday, Kairi,” Asuka wrote in the caption accompanying her vlog. “Reunited with Kairi after so long, we celebrated her birthday and exchanged presents!”
The heartwarming get-together marks the first time the former Kabuki Warriors have been seen together publicly since Sane was released from her WWE contract on April 24.
At the time of Sane’s sudden departure, she was actively involved in an overarching storyline alongside Asuka and IYO SKY. While WWE chose not to name Sane directly following her exit, creative briefly referenced the situation during a video package on Monday Night RAW leading into Asuka’s match against SKY at WWE Backlash. During the vignette, Asuka stated that she had to get rid of a friend to keep her from turning into another version of SKY, prompting live audiences to burst into chants of “Kairi” during subsequent in-ring confrontations.
Sane has remained a free agent in the months following her release, while Asuka remains under contract with WWE. However, “The Empress of Tomorrow” has been absent from television broadcasts since her loss to SKY at Backlash.
While the birthday celebration brought the former tag team partners back together, there is currently no indication that the reunion signals a professional pairing inside the ring.
