IYO SKY Earning Strong Backstage Praise as Breakout Star – Women’s World Champion IYO SKY is reportedly being hailed as one of WWE’s biggest breakout stars of 2025, receiving high praise from decision-makers within the company.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, a senior WWE official described SKY as a standout performer this year, crediting her in-ring excellence and growing promo ability. Her charisma, confidence, and command of the ring are reportedly drawing strong support from her peers and those behind the scenes.
“One person high up in decision making noted to us that Sky has been considered breakaway star this year, combining the fire and voice inflections that made Asuka a strong promo without speaking English and ‘her ridiculously great workrate, and everyone loves working with her, so no one has a problem making her shine, letting her shine, and designing a match for her to shine,’” Meltzer reported.
SKY’s momentum reached a peak at WrestleMania 41, where she retained her Women’s World Championship in a critically acclaimed triple threat match against Bianca Belair and Rhea Ripley on Night Two. The performance was lauded by fans and even earned praise from WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. SKY secured the win by pinning Belair, cementing her dominance in the women’s division.
A cornerstone of WWE’s women’s roster since signing in 2018, SKY has held the Women’s World Championship twice and is a former multi-time Women’s Tag Team Champion. Her exceptional workrate and adaptability continue to make her a favorite among talent and management alike.
Though she is not scheduled to defend her title at WWE Backlash this weekend, SKY will be back in action on the May 12 episode of RAW, teaming with Rhea Ripley to face Roxanne Perez and Giulia. The match promises to showcase some of WWE’s top-tier women’s talent and further solidify SKY’s role as a top star moving forward.
