Update on Damage CTRL Following Dakota Kai WWE Release – Dakota Kai was released by WWE last week in a move that caught many by surprise, especially given her continued involvement on RAW as a member of the Damage CTRL faction.
According to Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Live, WWE’s decision to release Kai may signal the end of Damage CTRL as an active group. Alvarez stated, “Dakota Kai was probably the biggest surprise, I would say. I don’t know what the story is there other than – and I don’t know if this is ‘official’ – but I was kind of told unofficially that Damage CTRL’s done. The group is done.”
Kai had been a central figure in the faction, often appearing alongside current WWE Women’s World Champion IYO SKY, as well as Asuka and Kairi Sane. With Kai gone, Asuka and Kairi currently injured, and SKY competing as a singles champion, the group’s dissolution appears increasingly likely.
Alvarez speculated on what this means moving forward: “That probably means that maybe Asuka and Kairi might come back as a tag team, and IYO’s obviously a big singles star, and maybe they just figured that Dakota, she’s not gonna be at the level of an IYO, doesn’t have a partner… so she got cut. That one is surprising.”
Alvarez also noted that Asuka remains sidelined due to injury, while Kairi Sane is reportedly training hard for a return.
