Chelsea Green Embraces Her On-Screen “Idiot” Persona for Career Success – Chelsea Green continues to prove that strong character work can shape a lasting WWE career, and she has no issue leaning into a persona that others might shy away from. At a time when presentation matters as much as in-ring ability, Green has fully committed to playing what she calls the “idiot” role, a choice she says has opened doors, boosted her visibility, and brought real financial rewards.
Currently a double champion, Green holds the Women’s United States Championship on SmackDown while also reigning as one-half of the Lucha Libre AAA Mixed Tag Team Champions alongside her NXT partner Ethan Page. Despite juggling titles across multiple brands, her comedic, over-the-top character remains central to her success. During a recent live episode of Insight with Chris Van Vliet, she was asked why she is so comfortable being the butt of the joke.
“Because it gets me views, and it gets me a new contract, and it gets me a raise, and it bought me my new house,” Green said. She added that the character continues to help her reach bigger opportunities. “And honestly, hopefully, in the next year it gets me numerous auditions, you know what I mean? Like, hopefully this parlays into something even bigger than we ever could have imagined — because I was able to just, like, tuck my tail between my legs and be the idiot.”
Green recently signed a new five-year WWE contract, securing her future with the company. Yet her ambitions stretch far beyond the ring. Acting, hosting, and broader entertainment roles are all part of the long-term plan. Speaking with Women’s World magazine in October, she explained her determination to build credibility outside wrestling. “I’ve been auditioning for role after role, and trying to dabble in the hosting space as well,” she said. “I’m trying to start at the bottom and not cut corners. I want to do it the right way and gain respect within film and TV — not get there because I had it handed to me on a WWE silver platter.”
Green’s willingness to embrace an unglamorous role, while pairing it with hard work and adaptability, has allowed her to stay consistently featured across WWE programming. With championship success, a new long-term deal, and growing opportunities beyond wrestling, her approach continues to pay off.
