Gunther Wins Last Time Is Now Tournament To Face John Cena In His Final Match – Gunther has officially earned the right to wrestle John Cena in the final match of Cena’s legendary career after defeating LA Knight in the finals of the Last Time Is Now Tournament on the December 5 edition of WWE SmackDown.

The bout delivered exactly what fans expected from two of WWE’s most popular stars, with a hard-hitting, back-and-forth contest that pushed both men to their limits before Gunther forced Knight to tap out.

The match opened with Knight bringing the fight early, landing punches and kicks before sending Gunther over the announce table. Knight kept the momentum as the crowd rallied behind him, but Gunther shifted the tide with a stiff European uppercut and a series of heavy strikes. Every time Knight appeared to build momentum, Gunther’s counters slowed him down, including a sharp clothesline out of the corner and a punishing backdrop driver on the apron.

Knight continued to battle back, hitting a neckbreaker, a Death Valley Driver, and a Burning Hammer for a near fall. Gunther responded with brutal chops, boots to the head, and a well-timed dropkick that nearly cut Knight in half. The two exchanged clotheslines, strikes, and dramatic near falls, keeping the match tight deep into the closing minutes.

In the final stretch, Knight connected with the BFT, but Gunther saved himself by getting his foot on the bottom rope. From there, Gunther locked in a sleeper, added body scissors, and continued punishing Knight’s neck. After a series of elbows and a deep cravate submission that wrenched Knight’s spine, Knight had no choice but to tap out.

With the win, Gunther advances to face John Cena on Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13 at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. The match will mark the final bout of Cena’s storied career. Gunther enters the match with major momentum, having retired Goldberg on Saturday Night’s Main Event in July during a historic moment in front of Goldberg’s hometown crowd.
