Penta Injured, Gunther and Solo Sikoa Advance in Last Time Is Now Tournament – Two spots in the semifinals of WWE’s The Last Time is Now tournament are now locked in following this week’s episode of RAW on November 24. With John Cena’s final match set for December 13 at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, DC, the field is tightening, and the first semifinal pairing is officially determined.
Gunther moved forward in the bracket by defeating Carmelo Hayes in their quarterfinal match. The hard-hitting bout marked another strong showing for Gunther as he continues to build momentum toward a potential showdown with Cena. Later in the night, Solo Sikoa advanced under far different circumstances when his match with Penta was stopped early due to a legitimate shoulder injury.
Penta suffered the injury after hitting a hurricanrana off the barricade and landing directly on his shoulder. Medical staff immediately attended to him, and cameras shifted focus to Sikoa inside the ring while the situation was addressed. Wade Barrett audibled into a commercial break as Joe Tessitore was receiving updated information backstage. When RAW returned from break, officials confirmed the match was being stopped and Sikoa was awarded the victory. Bryan Alvarez reported that the match had been planned to go roughly 12 minutes, and although Penta wanted to continue, he was not cleared to proceed.
The remaining quarterfinal matches will air on this Friday’s taped episode of SmackDown. Jey Uso faces Rusev, while LA Knight will meet a mystery opponent filling in for the injured Sheamus. Spoilers for the identity of Knight’s opponent are already circulating, but WWE has not revealed the name on television.
Once the final two quarterfinal winners are determined, the second semifinal matchup will be set. WWE has yet to announce when either semifinal will take place. With two weeks of programming left before December 13, the tournament bouts could land on the December 1 RAW, December 5 SmackDown, December 8 RAW, or December 12 SmackDown.
