Sami Zayn Wins Undisputed WWE Championship at Night of Champions

The Undisputed WWE Championship changed hands at Night of Champions as Sami Zayn defeated Cody Rhodes and GUNTHER in a Triple Threat Match. The bout came after weeks of tension and controversy involving all three competitors, leading to a high-stakes main event.

The match was set following repeated disputes between GUNTHER and the reigning champion. GUNTHER argued that he had been denied the title on more than one occasion, including previous encounters at Clash in Italy and a SmackDown match influenced by Sami Zayn. After another chaotic finish in a restarted title match, GUNTHER demanded a fresh opportunity.

Instead of granting a singles rematch, Cody Rhodes approached Nick Aldis with a different proposal. Rhodes requested to face both challengers at the same time to settle the issue. Aldis approved the request, making the Triple Threat Match official for Night of Champions.

Sami Zayn Undisputed WWE Championship win

Sami Zayn entered first for the main event, receiving a strong reaction from the crowd. Once the match began, all three competitors fought with urgency, knowing that the championship could change hands without being pinned directly.

Throughout the contest, each superstar came close to victory. Zayn broke up a near fall by Rhodes early, keeping the match alive. Moments later, Zayn connected with a Helluva Kick on GUNTHER, but Rhodes interrupted the pin attempt.

The action then moved outside the ring. Zayn attempted a package piledriver on Rhodes through the announce table, referencing Kevin Owens, but Rhodes countered and sent Zayn crashing through the other table instead. GUNTHER followed by delivering two powerbombs that drove Rhodes through an announce desk.

Back inside the ring, GUNTHER applied a sleeper hold on Rhodes. With no rope break rule in a Triple Threat Match, the hold remained locked in. Zayn intervened at a critical moment, preventing the referee from calling the match as Rhodes struggled to stay conscious.

Zayn then hit an Exploder Suplex into the corner followed by another Helluva Kick on GUNTHER for a close near fall. Rhodes re-entered the fight and delivered a Super Cutter to GUNTHER. Moments later, Zayn hit Cross Rhodes on Rhodes and prepared for another Helluva Kick, but GUNTHER reapplied the sleeper hold.

In the closing sequence, Rhodes struck both opponents with a double Cross Rhodes. As he attempted to capitalize, Zayn rolled him up and secured the three count.

With the victory, Sami Zayn captured the Undisputed WWE Championship. The win marked his first reign with the title after multiple attempts over the years. It also represented a milestone moment, coming 25 years after he began his professional wrestling career.
