WWE Night of Champions opened with a major moment as Oba Femi defeated Jey Uso to become the 25th King of the Ring.
The match began with tension, as Uso removed his wrist tape and arm sleeve before the two exchanged words. Femi quickly took control, overpowering Uso early with a shoulder tackle and corner offense. Uso attempted to create space by heading to the outside, where he managed to counter and send Femi into the ring post.
Uso built momentum with a series of suicide dives, connecting twice, but Femi remained standing. A third attempt was cut off by a stiff forearm from Femi, shifting control back in his favor. From there, Femi slowed the pace, using his strength advantage with a shoulder breaker and repeated strikes in the corner.
Uso fought back with a superkick and followed up with a frog splash for a near fall. Femi responded with a chokeslam, keeping the match even as both men traded impactful offense. Uso later hit a spear and followed with consecutive frog splashes, including a third attempt, but Femi kicked out at two.
Uso tried to wear Femi down with a sleeper hold and body scissors, but Femi powered out. The closing sequence saw Femi regain full control, delivering multiple uppercuts before finishing Uso with a toss powerbomb and a sit-out powerbomb for the three count.
Following the match, Nick Aldis entered the ring for the coronation. He presented Femi with the King of the Ring crown as the crowd reacted to the moment.
During a post-match interview with Byron Saxton, Femi reflected on the victory and his evolution.
“It feels so good to go from being The Ruler to being the King. Jey never understood what he was facing. Jey thought he was fighting one man, but you cannot beat fate. You cannot beat destiny. And you cannot beat me.”
Femi stood tall with the crown, signaling the next phase of his rise. With the win, he secures a world title opportunity at SummerSlam, positioning himself for one of the biggest matches of his career.
