Charlotte Flair believes her current run in WWE is part of a larger plan, even if it looks different from the dominant championship reigns fans associate with her. During a conversation with Dave LaGreca on Busted Open via WWE Radio on SiriusXM, Flair opened up about her role alongside Alexa Bliss and why she still sees herself as a top attraction in the women’s division.
Flair said she absolutely believes she should be presented and marketed as one of WWE’s premier stars.
“Do I agree that I should be a main attraction? Yes. Do I think that I should be looked at and marketed like that champion that you’re thinking? Yes.”
At the same time, she said her partnership with Bliss has allowed her to explore new layers of her character. Flair acknowledged that the pace of the tag run may feel slow to some fans, but she insisted there is a bigger picture behind it.
“I think being in this tag, whether it’s slow or not for some of my fans, I think there is a bigger picture, and that I’m going to keep working towards, keep fighting for that.”
Showing New Sides of Herself
Flair said teaming with Bliss has given her opportunities to be comedic, interact with different characters and even question her own positioning.
“In me being able to be comedic with Lexi or in the tag or working with so many different characters… am I kind of like an underdog right now? A little bit.”
She said the run has also allowed her to show vulnerability, something she feels fans haven’t always seen because she was so often portrayed as the unstoppable champion.
“I think it’s just showing that vulnerability and showing that, like, hey, I don’t need to have a main… Like, I’m interesting.”
Flair said fans sometimes struggled to relate to her greatness because they didn’t see the sacrifice behind it. She added that she was extremely good at playing the villain, sometimes too good, which made it harder for audiences to connect with her on a personal level.
Still in the Title Picture
Even while teaming with Bliss, Flair has remained involved in major storylines. She competed in the Interim WWE Women’s Championship match at SummerSlam and has formed an alliance with Bliss and Tatum Paxley on SmackDown. Flair said the past year has been the most versatile stretch of her career, and she feels she has proven she can adapt to any role.
Flair Says This Has Been Her Best Year Yet
Flair reflected on her evolution and said she wakes up every day believing she is the greatest, but she doesn’t rely on others saying it. She wants to embody it.
“I really want to feel and embody what it means to be the greatest and showing up, and that’s still evolving because I truly believe this was, like, the best year of my career, and I’ve never been more versatile.”
Flair said that if she could accomplish this much in a year where she felt many people had written her off, she can only imagine what she will be capable of in the next five years.
