FTR, made up of Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler, have been absent from AEW programming since dropping the World Tag Team Championship to Adam Copeland and Christian Cage at Double or Nothing. Their absence has now been explained, with Harwood confirming the team is stepping away for a much-needed break.
Harwood shared an update on Instagram while posting photos from a vacation in Hawaii, revealing that both he and Wheeler have decided to take time off after more than a decade of constant work. According to Harwood, the decision comes after years of physical wear and mental fatigue.
“Since the summer of 2014, The Revival, FTR, Dawson & Dash, Dax & Cash, whatever you want to call us, we’ve had the pedal to the floor. Aside from my bicep tear in 2017, we’ve taken no time away from the job we’ve dreamed of having. Physically & mentally, we both became exhausted.”
Harwood detailed the toll the schedule has taken, especially during their recent AEW run where they regularly worked both Dynamite and Collision. He listed multiple injuries he has been dealing with while continuing to perform.
“We were two of the very few talents that traveled and worked on both Collision & Dynamite. I’ve fought through 3 hematomas on my lower back, another bicep tear I decided not to have surgery on, labrum tear from my groin to my hip, a shoulder that needs replacement, and probably a laundry list of other things I’m too afraid to get checked out haha.”
The longtime tag team wrestler also made it clear that their future remains uncertain, as they focus on recovery and time with family.
“For the first time in 12 years, we’ve decided to step away and take some time for ourselves & for our families. I’m not sure when we’ll be back, what we’re going to do, how much longer we have, or if we even need to prove anything at all anymore.”
Despite stepping away from AEW television, FTR are not completely inactive. Harwood confirmed that the team will return to the ring for two independent appearances in August 2026. They are scheduled to face The Good Brothers at an Appalachian Mountain Wrestling event on August 22 in Corbin, Kentucky. One week later, they will compete at RevPro UK’s anniversary show at Wembley Arena in London, where they are set to challenge The Young Guns for the Undisputed British Tag Team Championship.
“However, we will see some of you on August 22nd for @appalachianmountainwrestling as we take on The Good Brothers in Corbin, KY & the following week August 29th for the @revprouk Undisputed British Tag Team Championship as we take on The Young Guns in Wembley Arena. Until then, enjoy my Hawaii family vacation pictures. Top Guys, out.”
For now, FTR’s focus remains on rest and recovery, with no confirmed timeline for their return to AEW programming.
