Oba Femi Regains NXT Championship at Deadline – The in-ring action at NXT Deadline on December 6 opened with a physical and competitive NXT Championship match, as Ricky Saints defended the title against former champion Oba Femi. After a relentless, back-and-forth battle, Femi overpowered Saints to reclaim the championship, becoming a two-time NXT Champion.
Saints came out aggressively, repeatedly attacking Femi’s arm to neutralize his power advantage. He clung to a tight armbar through several of Femi’s early counters, even avoiding an F5 attempt and hitting a DDT to slow the challenger. Saints followed with Old School and used speed and technique to keep Femi off balance long enough to score multiple near falls.
Femi responded with brute strength, delivering a delayed backbreaker, a release suplex, and a series of pounding strikes that left the champion reeling. He caught Saints mid-air on a crossbody, countered into another backbreaker, then press-launched him and drove him face-first into the mat. Femi followed with a double sledge, heavy corner offense, and a top wrist lock that allowed him to grind down Saints through prolonged control.
Despite the punishment, Saints rallied with dropkicks to the knee, a rana, and a spear that came close to retaining the title. He countered a discus clothesline with a cutter, then locked in a guillotine with body scissors that forced Femi to drop to one knee. Femi powered out by driving Saints onto the top rope, but Saints kept fighting, hitting a suicide dive, a Fameasser, and a tornado DDT for another near fall.
Femi answered with a Dominator attempt, a running uppercut, and finally landed Fall From Grace, but Saints kicked out. Moments later, Femi planted the champion with a powerful sit-out powerbomb, securing the three count and the championship.
After the match, Saints offered a handshake in a show of respect, which Femi accepted.
Saints’ first reign began at NXT No Mercy in September, when he defeated Femi for the title. With the championship now back around Femi’s waist, he moves forward into a major match: a showdown with Cody Rhodes at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13.
