Backstage Praise for Dakota Kai Following WWE Release, AEW Move Considered Likely

Backstage Praise for Dakota Kai Following WWE Release, AEW Move Considered Likely – Despite being released by WWE in early May, Dakota Kai is still receiving high praise from those within the company — with several insiders reportedly believing she would be a strong addition to All Elite Wrestling (AEW). This update comes from Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Kai, whose real name is Cheree Crowley, was one of the many talents let go during WWE’s post-WrestleMania 41 cuts. According to Meltzer, WWE sources expressed continued admiration for Kai’s in-ring work and persona, suggesting AEW would benefit from bringing her in.

“Dakota Kai (Cherrie Crowley, 37). Crowley wrestled on the indie scene as Evie from 2007 until signing with WWE at the end of 2016,” Meltzer wrote. “Those we talked to in WWE were positive on her and felt AEW should sign her.”

He further noted, “She’s a very good wrestler, has a name, and fans will know her immediately.”

Kai’s extensive background includes nearly a decade as Evie on the international independent circuit before joining WWE in 2016. During her time with WWE, she became a fan-favorite in NXT and later moved to the main roster as part of the Damage CTRL faction. Despite multiple injuries, she remained a strong presence on television and behind the scenes.

With a solid fan base, name recognition, and a versatile in-ring style, Kai is widely expected to draw interest from top promotions. AEW appears to be a natural landing spot should she continue her wrestling career, especially given the endorsement from WWE insiders who still view her favorably.
