John Cena May Tarnish His Image Due To The "Naked" Oscar Ceremony

John Cena May Tarnish His Image Due To The “Naked” Oscar Ceremony – One of the sensations at the recently held Oscars ceremony was the appearance of a naked John Cena. On Sunday, he took the stage naked to announce the winner for Best Costume Design at the 96th Academy Awards. The renowned wrestler and actor have an impeccable reputation, which is rare for a star of his caliber. For Cena, it is especially important to maintain a PG rating for the WWE audience, through which he gained popularity.

Why Cena appeared naked: reference to the 1974 Oscars

As it became known after the ceremony, this was a reference to events half a century ago. At the 46th Oscars ceremony in 1974, David Niven was introducing Elizabeth Taylor when a streaker (a naked man) ran across the stage. This scene was recreated by Jimmy Kimmel and John Cena.

Kimmel (already in 2024) recounted this story and asked the audience if they could imagine a naked man running across the stage today. It would be madness! When Kimmel finished his sentence, Cena appeared naked on the side of the stage. He caught the host’s attention and said he “couldn’t do it.” The show’s host appeared to challenge Cena to outdo the streaker and go naked, but the WWE star changed his mind before going on stage. Kimmel feigned disappointment: “You were supposed to run naked across the stage!” It turns out it was a planned joke. “This is an elegant event. Honestly, you should be ashamed now for coming up with a tasteless idea,” Cena replied.

Cena eventually took the stage and delivered a speech about the importance of costumes. He was only wearing Birkenstock sandals and an envelope to cover himself. Cena remarked that “the male body is not funny,” to which Kimmel replied, “it is for me.”

At the rest of the Oscars ceremony, Cena was dressed in a cloak-like garment that Kimmel put on him. Unfortunately, despite such a performance, the award for best costume at the ceremony went to Holly Waddington.

Mockery of Cena’s shorts

In addition to the shocking outfit (or rather its absence), Kimmel added fuel to the fire. He commented on the shorts Cena wore during wrestling matches. The host pointed out that “it’s better to be naked than in shorts.” Kimmel is not the first to mock Cena’s wrestling attire; there have been many jokes about it before.

John Cena becomes bolder

As mentioned above, John Cena must remain within the bounds of decency primarily for his main target audience, which watches WWE – this is PG. And for many years, he successfully coped with this. But in recent years, Cena has been taking more liberties.

For example, in February of this year, he tweeted (link) that he created an account on Onlyfans. However, as it turned out, this was a publicity stunt to promote his recent role as Ricky Stanicky. Users who followed the link in search of hot photos of Cena by subscription found a free account from the movie character.

And recently, in an interview with Unilad, Cena did not shy away from “adult” questions. He was asked about his guilty pleasure. Instead of a joke or some harmless funny answer, Cena responded in a way that even surprised his co-stars from the movie Ricky Stanicky. Cena named a movie called “Behind the Green Door.” For those who don’t know, Behind the Green Door is an adult film released in the 1970s. It is considered a genre classic and contains too explicit scenes for that time. To this discussion, Cena added that he doesn’t consider himself guilty and enjoys what he likes. That’s why he openly talks about adult films in interviews.
