Update on Kenny Omega – Nearly a week ago, Kenny Omega revealed his indefinite absence through a hospital photo caption, disclosing his diagnosis of diverticulitis.
This news significantly impacted AEW’s plans for the World End 2023 pay-per-view, set for December 30th at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island, New York. Originally, AEW’s World Tag Team Champions, Ricky Starks & Big Bill, were scheduled to defend their titles against The Golden Jets (Chris Jericho & Omega).
Dave Meltzer shared an update on Wrestling Observer Radio, stating that Omega’s condition has improved. “It’s been six days since Omega was hospitalized, and he is doing better. However, there’s still a long road ahead for his recovery,” Meltzer conveyed.
He further noted that due to the absence of a clear timeline for Omega’s return, the focus on building challengers for AEW World Heavyweight Champion MJF might not involve Omega in the immediate future. “I’m going to go with the idea that Omega is out for a long, long time, so I’m not going to figure him into this [building up challengers for AEW World Heavyweight Champion MJF] right now until later.”
