Update on Vince McMahon Netflix Documentary

Update on Vince McMahon Netflix Documentary – A multi-part docuseries focusing on Vince McMahon was initially announced during the third quarter of 2020 in a WWE financials call. Bill Simmons was named as the executive producer for the series, and Chris Smith, known for directing “Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened,” was set to be the director.

However, despite initial announcements and expectations, the docuseries encountered delays and setbacks. In December 2021, Stephanie McMahon mentioned that the series was anticipated to be released in 2022, though no specific release date was provided.

In July 2022, reports surfaced that the docuseries was no longer a part of Netflix’s content slate, indicating that the project might have been shelved or undergone significant changes.

Speaking to Bloomberg, Simmons gave an update on the project.

“We have, this Vince McMahon documentary that we’ve been working on for three years, I think it has the chance to be really great. I think it has a chance to be the best one I’ve been involved with. I’ll be interested to see what people think about that one. It was a lot of time and one where Netflix still has final cut of it and it’s a little more old school like the 30 For 30 model was. I think it has the chance to be really special,” said Simmons.

Asked if Vince gets to see the documentary before it comes out, Simmons replied, “Not the giving notes on the final cut part. He gets to look at clips.”

It is unknown when the docuseries will air.

On June 15, 2022 the Wall Street Journal reported the WWE board was investigating a secret $3 million settlement that Vince McMahon reportedly agreed to pay to a departing employee with whom he allegedly had an affair, according to documents and people familiar with the board inquiry. More reports regarding McMahon’s alleged misconduct and hush money would be published and he would retire as WWE CEO on July 22, 2022. He returned to the Board of Directors in January 2023 and WWE merged with UFC to form TKO under the Endeavor banner in September.
