Backstage News on Ric Flair’s AEW Status

Backstage News on Ric Flair’s AEW StatusRic Flair’s recent AEW debut has sparked curiosity among fans about the extent of his involvement with the promotion.

During his debut on Dynamite, Flair was unveiled as Tony Khan’s gift to Sting in anticipation of his retirement at next year’s Revolution PPV. Flair expressed his desire to accompany Sting until his retirement at Revolution, suggesting that he will continue making appearances for AEW. This segment led to Christian Cage, along with Nick Wayne and Luchasaurus, booking a trios match, pitting the heels against Sting, Allin, and a mystery partner at Full Gear.

In 2021, after his departure from WWE, there were speculations that All Elite Wrestling might sign him, given his friendship with AEW President Tony Khan, and the fact that his son-in-law, Andrade, was working for the promotion. However, these rumors subsided after allegations emerged against the WWE Hall of Famer on Dark Side of the Ring, resulting in a backlash.

As noted in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter by Dave Meltzer, Khan was eager to bring in Flair, and it’s expected that Flair will remain with AEW at least until March.

Meltzer wrote, “Khan wanted him to be part of the Sting [retirement] storyline and he’s supposed to be on the show as part of this through March. I believe part of this is also that AEW will help promote his “Whoooo” energy drink, or at least that is what is being talked about”

Wrestlingattitude.com also learned that Flair is set to provide show commentary during his future AEW appearances.
