Dakota Kai Was Once Again Called In For A Last-Minute Appearance On SmackDown – This week’s WWE SmackDown episode addressed the aftermath of the recent SummerSlam PLE, where IYO SKY emerged as the new WWE Women’s Champion.
During the SummerSlam press conference, Dakota Kai had mentioned her ongoing recovery from a torn ACL injury, indicating that her return is still a considerable time away. Despite this, she shared on a Twitch stream that the company contacted her on the same day as the event and asked her to fly to SummerSlam. Despite facing flight delays due to mechanical issues, she managed to make it to the show.
PWInsider has reported that Kai was not initially scheduled to appear on SmackDown. The backstage story making the rounds is that she was once again contacted at the last minute and asked to fly in for the show.
As seen below, Damage CTRL (Bayley, IYO SKY, and Dakota Kai) made an interruption during the opening match between Charlotte Flair and Asuka.
IYO SKY displayed a springboard double dropkick, capitalizing on the ensuing chaos around the ring, which resulted in the match being declared a Non-Contest. Following the match, Bayley and IYO proceeded to assault Asuka and Charlotte. Notably, Dakota Kai refrained from participating in the action due to her ongoing clearance status, indicating she’s not yet medically approved to compete.
