Two New Matches Planned For WWE SummerSlam – Dave Meltzer reports that Logan Paul vs. Ricochet has been added to the lineup for next month’s WWE SummerSlam.
Also added to the August 5 event is Rhea Ripley defending the WWE World Women’s Championship against Raquel Rodriguez.
Meltzer wrote:
The planned matches are Reigns vs. Jey Uso for the Universal title, Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar, Gunther vs. Drew McIntyre for the IC title, Logan Paul vs. Ricochet, Rhea Ripley vs. Raquel Gonzalez for the world women’s title, Asuka vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Bianca Belair for the WWE women’s title, Ronda Rousey vs. Shayna Baszler and Trish Stratus vs. Becky Lynch. All were listed for the show as of the weekend.
Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Austin Theory, and Edge are currently without matches on the card.
Meltzer pointed out how Triple H has kept the number of matches at the biggest shows lower than what Vince McMahon did in the past as a way to keep it a shorter show and give more focus to the big matches without burning out the crowd.
Meltzer speculated that the matches earmarked for the show could be moved to TV at the last minute whether that be right before or after the show, something WWE did with the Women’s Tag Team Titles and Tag Team Title bouts on SmackDown.
Meltzer added, “We were basically told that those bouts are scheduled but there is a lot of competition to get on the show, although most of the aforementioned matches would figure to be locks.”
Based on current storylines, here are the matches planned for 2023 WWE SummerSlam on August 5th, at Detroit’s Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan
- Roman Reigns defending the Undisputed Universal Championship against Jey Uso
- Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar
