Shayna Baszler: We’re Tired Of A Tag Division That’s So Temporary All The Time

RAW Superstar Shayna Baszler was a recent guest on Cheap Heat with Peter Rosenberg to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about having a potential rivalry with Ronda Rousey after their tag title reign ends, Baszler teased that they’ve talked about it and feels it would be different than your typical tag team breakup.

“Well, I don’t know, we’ve always said that there’s a way to tell [that story],” Shayna Baszler said. “So in combat sports, in wrestling, in Judo, in MMA, if your teammate has the title, the one way you get the title shot against your teammate is if the whole entire division is cleaned out, and they’ve earned it. It’s sort of a respect thing.

“If I’m the champion and my friend has now cleaned out everyone and earned their way there. It would be disrespectful for me to deny them a title shot just because we’re friends. And so we’ve always talked about how there is a way to tell that in wrestling also. Is it maybe as compelling? I guess it depends on how you sell it. But I think it’s a little different than the Shawn Michaels, Marty Jannetty. So I don’t know. We’ll see what happens.”

As far as Baszler is concerned, a rivalry with Rousey isn’t a thought right now, as their primary goal at the moment is to help rebuild the women’s tag team division in WWE.

“We got these to do, and we didn’t just want these titles. We’re tired of a tag division that’s so temporary all the time,” Shayna Baszler said. “Like, oh, we need to do something. Let’s throw some girls together. Like we want to make a tag division. It’s very possible to have tag teams that also wrestle for singles. So I think we could build a tag division that doesn’t take away from the single scene at all, and that’s what we want to do right now.”
