Backstage News On WWE’s Long-Term Direction For Cody Rhodes – WWE shocked a lot of fans when they had Roman Reigns retain the Undisputed WWE Universal Title over Cody Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania 39 – night two last month, as many fans had believed Rhodes was the guy to dethrone Reigns.
Coming out of the show, fans questioned what the long-term plan for Reigns’s title reign actually is.
At Saturday’s Night of Champions, both Reigns and Rhodes will be in action as Rhodes will wrestle Brock Lesnar in a Backlash rematch while Reigns scheduled to team with Solo Sikoa to take on Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that WWE is still planning to go back to Reigns vs. Rhodes, with WrestleMania 40 next year as a possible date.
Meltzer wrote, “As far as long-term goes, Reigns vs. Rhodes is the long-term direction for the ultimate destination match. WrestleMania is a strong possibility, but this far out there are so many things that can happen”
As previously reported, Reigns is slated to defend the Undisputed WWE Universal Title at two upcoming WWE premium live events.
