WWE Smackdown Results (7/23) – Cleveland, OH – We are live from the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio, as John Cena makes his way to the ring to start the show.
John says he understands that it has been a hell of a week. John says the big suprirse at Money in the Bank was fun. He says he was so excited that he had to crash Raw and do a Q&A to explain how he escaped the Firefly Fun House, how many Peacemaker costumes did he really take, and who is there to chin check Roman Reigns? I came back to challenge Roman Reigns at SummerSlam for the Universal Title. I know why you are excited. John says we are only a few heartbeats away from John Cena and Roman Reigns face to face in this very ring. Cena says he couldn’t think of a better place to do this. John says he went to the Cleveland Government offices and changed his middle name to “Guardians” because someone needs to protect the respect that WWE has left. Smackdown with Roman Reigns as champion sucks.
There are hundreds of Roman Reigns fans around there and they deserve to stand up and be heard. You deserve to stand up and be heard. No more Thunderdome. This is a chance for all of us to stand up for what we believe in. What do you believe in? Whose team are you on? John asks if you are on Team Jorts or are you on Team Cargo Pants? Are you on Team Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect or are you on a Team the Fans Always Reject? Are you Team Cena or are you on Team Roman Reigns?
John wonders where the hell is Roman. John says that Roman knows he can’t see him. After SummerSlam, he will realize that the CHAMP… IS… HERE.
John asks Roman if he hears that and he wants Roman to come out. John tells Roman it is time to make history.
Roman does not come out and then John asks politely for Roman to come out.
Paul Heyman makes his way to the stage. Paul says John Cena has it all wrong. Roman Reigns can’t see you? Roman Reigns can’t hear you because you’re simply worth him listening to. Paul tells John not to get his panties in a bunch. Paul says he gives John his word that tonight you will get an answer to your challenge, when but only when Roman Reigns decides to come out and show you and everyone here that the… THE TRIBAL CHIEF is here. Paul beat boxes Cena’s theme.
— We take a look back at what happened last week with Sami Zayn and Finn Balor. Balor then makes his way to the ring as we go to commercial.
Finn Balor vs. Sami Zayn
They lock up and Balor with a waist lock. Zayn with a back elbow and a wrist lock. Zayn takes Balor to the mat and applies an arm bar. Zayn with a punch and he runs Balor’s eyes across the top rope. Zayn with a forearm to the back and punches to Balor. Zayn sends Balor to the floor. Zayn punches Balor against the ringside barrier. Zayn with more punches and he sends Balor back into the ring. Balor with a double leg take down and punches. Balor with boots to Zayn. Balor with a kick and he sends Zayn to the floor. Balor with a flip dive onto Zayn.
We go to commercial.
We are back and Balor punches Zayn but Zayn with a clothesline for a near fall. We take a look at Zayn sending Balor into the ring post during the commercial. Zayn with a sleeper into a reverse chin lock. Zayn with a knee to Balor. Zayn sends Balor into the turnbuckles but Balor with boots to Zayn. Zayn with a DDT. Zayn sets for the Helluva Kick but Balor with Slingblade. Zayn misses a punch and Balor with an elevated elbow drop. Zayn catches Balor on a running drop kick and hits a Blue Thunder Bomb for a near fall. Zayn sets for the Exploder into the turnbuckles but Balor blocks it. Zayn with elbows to the back. Zayn tries for the exploder again and Balor blocks it and connects with elbows and he runs Zayn into the corner.
Balor counters an exploder into a victory roll and double stomp. Balor drop kicks Zayn into the turnbuckles and does it a second time. Balor goes up top and hits Coup de Grace for the three count.
Winner: Finn Balor
Backstage:
Kayla Braxton is in the back and she is joined by Baron Corbin. Kayla asks Baron about his GoFundMe and how much money he made. Baron says he lost money on this venture. Baron says the guy who made the site ghosted him after he paid the guy. Baron says the guy stole his identity. Baron says he had to ride the bus and he complains about the smells. Baron asks what happened to him.
— Big E makes his way to the ring with his briefcase. We get a video about his win at Money In The Bank. We go to commercial.
In the Arena:
Back from the break and Big E has a mic, and his briefcase. He goes to speak but a “you deserve it!” chant starts up. He talks about how Sunday was a night he will never forget. The music interrupts and out comes WWE Intercontinental Champion Apollo Crews with Commander Azeez. Crews congratulates Big E for overcoming the odds. He says Big E’s win was not the same as winning a title, like Crews did at WrestleMania 37.
The music interrupts and out comes Robert Roode with Dolph Ziggler on the stage. They begin cutting promos but the music interrupts and here comes Rick Boogs with his guitar. He begins performing the entrance for King Shinsuke Nakamura and out he comes next to a pop. Cesaro is out next with a mic. Cesaro says enough talking, he wants the title and Apollo… it’s Swing Time, in Cleveland! A big brawl breaks out in the ring. Crews retreats to he floor.
Cesaro sends Ziggler to the floor. Azeez works over Big E in the corner. Azeez goes to double chokeslam Cesaro and Nakamura but they fight him off. Big E joins in and clotheslines Azeez to the floor. Crews is back in now but Cesaro starts him in the Cesaro Swing. Crews is quickly pulled to safety by Azeez as the heels re-group at ringside, and the babyfaces stand tall.
– Crews and McAfee send us to the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida for the Rolling Loud rap festival. Rapper and noted WWE fan Wale welcomes us. He’s on stage in front of a packed crowd. He gets the crowd to chant “we want the smoke!” and then introduces The Street Profits.
Angelo Dawkins vs. Chad Gable
Otis distracts Dawkins and Gable with punches. Dawkins with a flying clothesline and drop kick. Dawkins with a butterfly rolling suplex. Dawkins tries to suplex Gable back into the ring and Gable lands on his feet. Gable punches Dawkins. Dawkins puts Gable on the turnbuckles to counter a monkey flip and Gable with a cross arm breaker in the ropes. Gable with a springboard clothesline for a near fall. Gable with a boot to the injured arm. Gable with a wrist clutch Northern Lights suplex for a near fall. Gable with an arm bar. Gable with a German suplex and he gets a near fall. Gable goes to the turnbuckles and tries for a moonsault but he lands on his feet when Dawkins moves.
Dawkins sends Gable to the floor and then Dawkins with a twisting splash into the corner. Gable with a boot to Dawkins. Dawkins with a punch for a near fall. Dawkins puts Gable on the turnbuckles but Gable gets to the mat and Gable with a back slide for a near fall. Dawkins with a spinebuster for the three count.
Winner: Angelo Dawkins
After the match, Smackdown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair makes her way to the ring for her rematch against Carmella. We go to commercial.
Bianca Belair vs. Carmella for the Smackdown Women’s Championship
Carmella with a rollup for a near fall. Bianca with a rollup for a near fall. Carmella with a kick and she pie faces Bianca. Carmella with punches in the corner. Bianca floats over and hits a drop kick that sends Carmella to the apron. Carmella drops Bianca on the top rope and Carmella with a satellite head scissors. BIanca with a shoulder tackle. Carmella holds on to the ropes to block a KOD. Bianca with a forearm. They both go to the apron and Carmella drops Bianca on the apron and then Carmella gets a near fall. Carmella with a sleeper and Bianca gets back to her feet. Bianca with a back breaker. Carmella sends Bianca into the turnbuckles.
Carmella with a forearm from the apron and she goes up top and hits a cross body but Bianca holds on and rolls through and hits a fallaway slam. Bianca with a handspring moonsault for a near fall. Carmella blocks a suplex and hits an X Factor for a near fall. Carmella with a thrust kick and Bianca blocks another kick. Bianca with a foerarm and KOD for the three count.
Winner: BIanca Belair
Backstage:
Kevin Owens is in the back with Tegan Nox and Shotzi Blackheart and he tries to help them with their tank. Kevin continues to walk and a homeless guy, sorry Baron Corbin stops Kevin and apologizes for what he said last week. Kevin says Baron brought it upon himself. Baron asks Kevin if he can forgive him. Kevin asks Baron if it is the same shirt as last week but Baron says it is a different shirt. Kevin mentions that he has a stain on it. Kevin gives Baron some money and he tells Baron not to be a jerk to everyone.
Tegan and Shotzi get the cannon to work and it hits Baron in his Corbins. Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode show up and take the money from Baron. Kevin comes over with a chair and Dolph and Roode leave.
— Edge makes his way to the ring as we watch what happened between Edge and Seth Rollins at Money in the Bank.

In the Arena:
We are back and Edge says you have no idea what those reactions mean for him. You know his history. You know what he has done. You know how hard he fought to get this back. He says you know how hard he fought to get you back. If you watched Money in the Bank, I should be the Universal Champion, but I am not. There is one reason why . . . Seth Rollins.
He says he thought he had all bases covered. He had the Mysterios watching his back for the Usos. I thought you would have attacked Roman thinking it would be easier to beat Edge for the title. This is bigger than that. This goes back to 2014 when we first met. You didn’t pull the trigger then to get the job done because you didn’t think I would be back. I am back and I am in your way. You have no inkling of the Pandora’s Box of violence and mental pain you have opened. I learned from the most evil minds in this industry. I was in the Brood. I was in the Ministry of Darkness. You don’t know the depths I will sink to in order to get the job done. You will find out.
Seth Rollins’ music plays and he makes his way to the ring.
Seth says Edge is talking about the man he used to be.
Edge tells Seth to shut up and that he is embarrassing himself. Edge promises he won’t put his hands on Seth and he wants to have a man to man talk.
Seth says that Edge isn’t as stupid as he looks because Edge knows what I could do to you. Seth says he was going to come out here and talk about how much he despises this city, talk about how much he despises people like you and John Cena who want to come back whenever you want, jump the line, and take opportunities from people who earned those opportunities. I was going to talk about all of those things, but the more I thought about it, I agree with the people of Cleveland. I am excited that you are in my ring.
Seth says Edge has been such a scumbag to him that nothing would make me happier than to crush your dreams. I would love to be the one to put an end to your comeback story. If you keep pushing me and pushing me and pushing me. When they talk about the Hall of Fame career of Edge, they aren’t going to talk about you, they are going to talk about the man who ended you, Seth Rollins. I had the chance to end you once before, when I brought the Authority back.
I hesitated, but when I get that opportunity again. When I have my boot on the back of your surgically repaired neck, I will not hesitate to pull the trigger.
Edge tells Seth he is a liar and he punches Seth. They exchange punches and Seth wtih a knee and forearms to the back. Edge with a kick and Edgecution. Seth struggles to get back to his feet but he is able to avoid a spear and he falls to the floor.
We go to commercial.
Toni Storm vs. Zelina Vega
They lock up and Vega with a side head lock. Toni with a boot to the head. Toni with a clothesline to Vega against the ropes. Vega goes to the floor and Vega sends Toni into the announce table. Vega kicks Storm and she connects with a knee in the corner. Vega with a running knee for a near fall. Vega goes for a DDT but Storm blocks it and she hits a head butt and both women go down. Storm with a running hip stirke followed by a German suplex for a near fall. Storm sets for Storm Zero but Vega escapes and Vega with a kick and Code Red for a near fall.
