WWE Smackdown Results - April 16, 2021

WWE Smackdown Results – April 16, 2021 – Tonight’s Smackdown episode begins with look back at the main event from Wrestlemania 37 Night Two for the Universal Championship.

We’re live from the WWE ThunderDome at Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida, as Michael Cole and new commentator Pat McAfee welcome us to the show. Roman Reigns, Paul Heyman and winner of the 2021 Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, Jey Uso, make their way to the ring.

Roman says they put a lot of eyes on Smackdown.  For the new viewer, why don’t you tell him about the men he beat in the main event of Wrestlemania.

Paul mentions Edge, an 11 time world champion married to a Hall of Famer and a Hall of Famer.  Then you have Daniel Bryan, a five time world champion, married to a Hall of Famer and sure to be a Hall of Famer some day, but it may come soon after you stacked both men up to beat them.  It was like a handicap match instead of a Triple Threat Match in the main event of Wrestlemania.

Roman says he called his shot.  He said he would smash them, stack them, and pin them one two three.  Then they acknowledge me (as Roman shows us his shirt that says just that).  Roman says they will never put him in another Triple Threat Match because of what I did to them.  No one wants to face me.  They are Hall of Famers and I smashed them and stacked them before pinning them.  If I am doing that to men like that, who wants me next.

No one wants to put their reputation on the line, it’s not worth it, no one is on his level. Reigns says they fulfilled the obligation, they opened his show, SmackDown, so now Heyman can tell them to cut the check. Let’s go. They go to leave but the music interrupts and out comes Cesaro.

Cesaro enters the ring and Reigns gets in his face, all business now. Cesaro stares back and then looks at the title on Reigns’ shoulder. Cesaro walks over and grabs a mic as Reigns, Heyman and Uso exit the ring, not concerned with what Cesaro has to say. Fans boo Reigns and crew. They go all the way to the back now while Cesaro’s music is still playing. Cesaro was left hanging and doesn’t get the chance to speak on the mic as we go back to the announcers with Cesaro’s music still playing.

– Still to come, a look at the single most impressive moment in WWE history, which Cole doesn’t name. We go to commercial.

Backstage:

Back from the break with Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville in the back. Cesaro stops by since he wasn’t given a chance to talk in the ring. Kayla Braxton is with Paul Heyman, but the guy on the ladder is gone.  She asks if Roman will accept the challenge. Paul says that we do not grant wishes to Neanderthals.  Paul says there was no rain delay on Saturday.  They were tears from angels anticipating the beating that Roman would give to Daniel Bryan and Edge.  When we got back to Roman’s locker room, there were tears from above, and tears from the locker room.  Seth Rollins had to lower himself to face someone like Cesaro.  A billion dollar body with a ten cent brain and this is who gets in the face of the Tribal Chief?  Cesaro is physically capable but let’s stop this before it gets out of the station.  Let’s give Cesaro what he wants.  Cesaro one on one in the main event against THE MAIN EVENT… Jey Uso.

In the Arena:

Sami Zayn makes his way to the ring as we take a look at what happened at WrestleMania 37 with Kevin Owens and Logan Paul.

Sami says he sees all of the headlines except for the one that is most accurate.  SAMI ZAYN SCREWED AGAIN.  Wrestlemania was supposed to be his vindication because all of the stars were alligned, especially his star Logan Paul.  Logan was supposed to expose the conspiracy but that was not how it went down.  Logan Paul’s mind was poisoned by Kevin Owens and the WWE Universe talking bad about Sami Zayn.  It was poisoned by management and Michael Cole.  Everybody got in his head.  Sami says he could sense it.  He felt Logan pulling back when he hugged him in the ring.  Sami says he was worried about Logan during the match, and that was the only reason why Kevin was able to squeak out a victory over him. Sami says he will not be denied his vindication.  He tells Kevin to give him what he wants.  There are no distractions.  No toxic fans in the stands.  No Logan Paul to distract him.  That is why you aren’t coming out…

Kevin Owens’ music plays and he makes his way to the ring. But first… We go to commercial.

We see the footage from Sunday.

Apollo asks if you saw that.  This is his Commander Azeez, a former member of the Nigerian Elite Guard.  If anyone comes for his Intercontinental Title, you will be stopped by the Nigerian Nail.

Angelo says he got the feels.  Montez says the party isn’t quite over.  Montez says on Saturday he shared a genuine moment and they want to share this moment with all of you tonight.  Montez brings out the new Smackdown Women’s Champion… Bianca Belair!

Bianca says she feels like she has been floating since Saturday night.  She says she has been so blessed.  Despite the setbacks and struggles, she never thought this moment would be possible.  She says her family has been making history for generations, so she learned from them that you can change the game.  If you asked her a year ago if she would have main evented Wrestlemania and won the Smackdown women’s title . . . I probably would have said yes.  That isn’t cockiness, it is just who I am.

If you can dream it, you can do it.  I went to Wrestlemania and I showed up and showed out.  It isn’t just about me.  Sasha Banks.  Thank you because there is no one I would have rather shared the spotlight with than you.  We both made history.  If you ever try to forget it, I left you with a little something to remember me by. This is more about Sasha too.  This moment is so much bigger than that.  It is for the little girls watching in Raymond James Stadium and the ones watching at home thinking that could be them.  We are just getting started creating history.

Montez wants a group hug.

Bianca says it is time to drop them cups and throw those tissues away because you have to win the tag titles because we only wear gold in this house.

— Sasha Banks is in the back with Sasha Banks and Sasha says Bianca… Sasha cannot think of what to say and she walks away.

Backstage:

Bayley says that Sasha probably wants a rematch but she cannot say anything.  Bayley says that while she was saving both nights, Bianca was in the ring crying.  She was crying because she didn’t think she could win.  Bayley says Bianca isn’t the type of champion you want.  There is one way to fix it and that is to restore dignity to the title.  I need to challenge Bianca and take her title.

Kayla is backstage with Cesaro now, asking about Paul Heyman’s negative comments from earlier. Cesaro thinks Heyman is right – Cesaro has buck teeth, a slack jaw, and he’s not the smartest person in the world, he does look like a neanderthal, but Heyman is wrong about one thing – Cesaro does belong in the ring with Roman Reigns.
