Paul Ellering Was Scheduled To Return To WWE Tv Before The Covid-19 Pandemic

WWE Hall Of Famer Paul Ellering was the guest on this week’s “Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling” podcast.

Ellering hasn’t been seen on WWE television since he was written off the shows shortly after The Authors Of Pain moved up to the main roster in 2018. That appeared to be the end for him but, according to Ellering, there were plans for him to return this year to reprise his role as the manager of AOP. Ellering says the coronavirus and injuries put a halt to those plans.

AOP’s Rezar suffered a torn triceps during the March 9th episode of Monday Night Raw. Akam is healthy but the decision was made to keep him at home until Rezar was cleared to wrestle again. It is interesting to hear that Ellering was supposed to return to storylines because AOP was aligned with Seth Rollins in March so perhaps, there were palns to have them break away from Rollins at some point.

“The idea was to bring me back in, but then this Corona stuff came up,” Ellering said. “Then the guys got hurt and they were out a while, so everything got put on the back shelf and I don’t know where it sits now.”

Ellering also talked about how much he enjoyed working with AOP in NXT: He said, “WWE asked if I would fly down to Orlando and talk about it. After I met Rezar and Akam, the Authors of Pain, then I knew I wanted to do it because they are two terrific young men. The best of the best. I wanted to do it to help them. We had a good run for 2 years. It was fun. I really enjoyed being around all the young people there. I would fly down for TV and maybe an extra date to do interviews so I never had to be on the road.”
