Kevin Owens made a triumphant return to the WWE NXT brand over the weekend, receiving a deafening reaction from the live crowd.
The former NXT Champion appeared during Saturday night’s NXT live event at the Centre Slush Puppie in Gatineau, Quebec, marking the final stop of the brand’s three-show tour of Canada.
Electric Crowd Reaction and Main Event Action
As Owens walked out, the Canadian audience erupted into a massive ovation, welcoming back one of their most celebrated local heroes for his first NXT match in nearly seven years.
Owens stepped into the squared circle for the evening’s marquee main event, teaming up alongside Shiloh Hill, Tony D’Angelo, and Kendal Grey. The quartet successfully defeated The Birthright stable consisting of Lexis King, Uriah Connors, Charlie Dempsey, and Arianna Grace in a high-energy eight-press tag team match.
Following the bell, Owens grabbed the microphone to address the roaring crowd. In a memorable moment, he singled out the mother of AEW star Evil Uno, who was sitting courtside in the front row, playfully apologizing for everything he has put her son through over their extensive shared history in the independent and professional wrestling ranks.
A Rare NXT Homecoming
While the appearance was scheduled to help drive attendance for the Canadian loop, the sheer volume of the reaction proved just how much the developmental brand’s fans appreciate his roots. His previous involvement with NXT came back in November 2019 at NXT TakeOver: WarGames, where he shocked the world as the mystery fourth member of Tommaso Ciampa’s team.
While Owens has spent the years since firmly established as a cornerstone of WWE’s main roster, his homecoming in Quebec delivered an unforgettable live experience for everyone in attendance.
