Cash Wheeler Confident FTR’s Endurance Will Outlast Motor City Machine Guns In Best-Of-Five Series

AEW star Cash Wheeler believes FTR holds a distinct physical advantage over the Motor City Machine Guns as their high-stakes best-of-five series continues.

With the series tied at one match apiece, FTR is gearing up for the third installment against Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin at AEW Fright Night Dynamite. While the Machine Guns took the opening bout at WrestleDream, Dax Harwood and Wheeler bounced back with a crucial victory on Collision to even the score.

Why FTR Thrives In Marathon Matches

Speaking during an interview with Going Ringside, Wheeler highlighted FTR’s track record in long-distance bouts as the deciding factor in how the series will ultimately unfold.

“I mean, shockingly, I see it working out in FTR’s favor. Everybody knows that for us in particular, the longer a match goes or the longer a series goes, the better off we are. We thrive in those marathon style matches. We’ve done 58 minutes with Jay White and Juice Robinson. We’ve done 45 minutes with Mark and Jay Briscoe. When you get into those deep waters, when you get past the point of a normal match and you’re in a new realm, I think we thrive there,” Wheeler explained.

Comparing FTR’s endurance against their opponents’ explosive style, Wheeler added: “I think that’s our milieu, I don’t know if Motor City can say the same thing. They might be more explosive in those first 15 minutes or those first 20 minutes, but once you get past that, which we are very good at making sure that we can drag that out a little bit to get that advantage. I think it plays to our favor.”

Overcoming Early Setbacks

Reflecting on their opening loss in the series, Wheeler pointed out that lingering physical tolls from earlier high-impact matches played a major role in their initial misstep.

“Then, you think about the fact that we lost match one, sure. But, we were both coming out of a ladder match that took a couple years off our careers each. So, we’re just still getting back to full health. I’m getting my shoulders back into a range of motion that is actually healthy again. So, I think if those goes the full five, then that favors FTR.”

The rivalry reaches its next major turning point as FTR and the Motor City Machine Guns lock horns for Match 3 on Wednesday, October 28 at AEW Fright Night Dynamite.
