A dream rivalry in professional wrestling’s tag team ranks is officially set to become a multi-match war.
During the October 14 episode of AEW Dynamite & Collision, FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) came face-to-face with the Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley), resulting in the announcement of an ambitious Best-of-Five Series between the two legendary duos.
Dax Harwood Demands Competition, MCMG Answers The Call
The segment began with interviewer Tony Schiavone standing in the ring alongside FTR and manager Stokely Hathaway, who limped to the ring on crutches.
Dax Harwood quickly took control of the microphone, delivering an emotional address emphasizing that nothing—including his own family—means more to him than holding tag team gold. Harwood challenged The Young Bucks to step up as the next contenders for the AEW World Tag Team Championship.
Instead, the crowd was greeted by the entrance music of the Motor City Machine Guns:
- Chris Sabin’s Respect & Challenge: Sabin voiced tremendous respect for FTR’s legacy, but noted that past accolades mean little compared to the current landscape of AEW’s tag division. Sabin declared that he and Alex Shelley intend to prove they are the premiere tag team in the industry today.
- Alex Shelley Proposes Best-Of-Five: Referencing FTR’s famed trilogy against The Young Bucks, Shelley pointed out that beating FTR three times out of five would definitively prove MCMG’s supremacy. Shelley formally issued the challenge for a Best-of-Five Series, urging it to start immediately.
- Stokely Intervenes: Stokely Hathaway stepped between the teams, refusing to let the match take place without proper preparation. Hathaway decreed that a series of this magnitude belonged on pay-per-view, officially locking in Match 1 for AEW WrestleDream 2026.
Handshake Seals The Deal For WrestleDream
Despite Hathaway’s vocal posturing, both teams showed immense mutual respect, sealing the Best-of-Five agreement with a handshake in the center of the ring.
With Match 1 set for AEW WrestleDream 2026 on Saturday, October 17, fans are poised to witness a generational series that could redefine the modern tag team landscape.
