AEW Reportedly Planning Will Ospreay Vs Adam Copeland AEW World Championship Match

AEW is reportedly planning a World Championship match between Will Ospreay and Adam Copeland, potentially targeting Full Gear.

A major blockbuster world title match appears to be on the horizon for All Elite Wrestling following the dramatic conclusion of the main event at AEW WrestleDream.

AEW World Champion Will Ospreay successfully retained his title in the inaugural Clockwork Carnage match, overcoming seven top-tier competitors. In the closing seconds of the grueling scoring period, Adam Copeland appeared poised to capture victory after delivering a Spear to Kazuchika Okada. However, Ospreay flattened Copeland with a Hidden Blade to score the final pinfall and secure the defense.

Tensions flared immediately following the bell when a visibly frustrated Copeland shoved the champion. The situation briefly defused after both stars shook hands, but the physical confrontation sparked immediate speculation regarding a direct singles program between the two.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer analyzed the post-match exchange, noting that the interaction clearly pointed toward a high-profile championship clash, potentially at AEW’s upcoming marquee event:

Yeah. So, you know, at the end of the pay per view, they did the thing where Ospreay and Copeland shook hands. It was pretty clear that they’re going to do that match. So it would not shock me if that was the Full Gear main event. Ospreay and Adam Copeland are going to be doing a championship match at some point.

The potential rivalry carries heightened stakes following Copeland’s recent announcement that 2027 will mark his final year as an active performer, with winning the AEW World Championship remaining at the top of his career bucket list.

WrestlingAttitude has additionally learned that Copeland may not compete through the full 2027 calendar year. Internal discussions indicate his retirement could occur as early as next summer, with AEW All In being eyed as a prospective farewell stage. Management fully intends to honor Copeland’s legendary career and is committed to granting him an AEW World Championship reign before he hangs up his boots.
