WWE recently ended Alexa Bliss and Tatum Paxley’s Women’s Tag Team Championship reign after just two weeks, leaving fans confused by the sudden shift. According to a recent report, creative simply wanted to hot potato the titles to generate division movement rather than following a major storyline.
The Reason Behind The Title Switch
Michin and B-Fab captured the gold on the October 23 episode of SmackDown following outside interference from Jade Cargill. Cargill punched Paxley behind the referee’s back, allowing Michin to capitalize with a Styles Clash and secure the victory.
Addressing the decision, WrestleVotes explained that WWE is using frequent title changes to stimulate a quiet division and get fans talking.
“They hot potato it a little bit. It’s one of those things where, creatively, they wanna kinda stimulate the tag team division and hot potato the tag team titles like that when there’s not a lot going on. It’s about drumming up a little bit more interest in the women’s tag team division,” the report stated.
Short Reign And Fan Backlash
Bliss and Paxley held the championships for roughly two weeks without picking up a single successful defense. The abrupt ending drew immediate fan criticism, with many questioning the point of putting the belts on them if the plan was to move on instantly.
While the strategy aims to spark conversation and provide new opportunities, it remains to be seen whether constant title shuffling will benefit the division long-term.
