Backstage reports regarding upcoming Drew McIntyre WWE return reveal that creative is considering a brand swap to RAW following his post-WrestleMania hiatus.
Former Undisputed WWE Champion Drew McIntyre is nearing his return to WWE television following a extended hiatus, with creative discussions pointing toward a potential brand change for the Scottish star.
McIntyre has been absent from WWE programming since competing against Jacob Fatu in a brutal Unsanctioned Match at WrestleMania 42. During his sabbatical from the ring, the former world champion completed filming commitments for high-profile film projects, including The Last Druid and the upcoming Highlander reboot starring Henry Cavill and Dave Bautista, where McIntyre portrays Angus MacLeod. In addition, McIntyre wrapped filming on WWE’s new microdrama project alongside Fatu and Joe Hendry.
According to a report from WrestleVotes Radio, WWE creative is currently exploring ideas that would place McIntyre on RAW upon his return, despite having been assigned to SmackDown prior to his break.
The report notes that WWE officials originally intended to bring McIntyre back into television storylines in late August, but those plans were ultimately delayed following a sudden creative pivot. The internal rationale for shifting McIntyre to Monday nights stems from the feeling that RAW could benefit more from a main-event level attraction of his stature compared to the current blue brand roster.
While an exact date for his re-emergence on WWE programming has not been officially locked in, McIntyre recently showcased his physical conditioning on social media, revealing a side-by-side transformation showing he has remained in peak ring shape. He also stirred fan speculation by sharing a picture alongside his longtime rival CM Punk, captioning the post “Series Finale.”
