Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre could be nearing a return to WWE programming, with both names reportedly appearing in early internal plans tied to SummerSlam in August. The update suggests that the company is preparing for their comeback following their absence since WrestleMania 42.
According to WrestleVotes Radio, an internal document circulated earlier this month listed both Orton and McIntyre in connection with the upcoming two-night SummerSlam event in Minneapolis. While there are no confirmed creative directions yet, their inclusion signals that WWE is at least considering both stars for the show as plans continue to develop.
Both men have been off television for different reasons. Drew McIntyre last competed at WrestleMania Saturday, where he faced Jacob Fatu in an Unsanctioned Match. McIntyre came up short in a physical contest that included the use of weapons, with Fatu securing the win after a hard-fought battle.

Randy Orton also last appeared at WrestleMania 42, where he challenged Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship in the main event. During that match, Orton turned on Pat McAfee and delivered an RKO. Despite the shocking moment, Orton failed to win the title. After the match, he added to the fallout by hitting a Punt Kick on his former protégé before leaving.
A previous report indicated that Orton’s absence was tied to ongoing back issues, raising concerns about his in-ring future. At the time, many expected WWE to continue his rivalry with Rhodes. Instead, the company shifted direction and moved Rhodes into a program with Gunther during Orton’s time away.
McIntyre’s absence, on the other hand, has been linked to outside projects. Reports noted that he was involved in filming the upcoming Highlander reboot alongside Henry Cavill, which explains his time away from WWE television.
While no official return dates have been confirmed, the internal listing for SummerSlam points to both Orton and McIntyre being on track for a comeback. Their potential involvement would add significant star power to one of WWE’s biggest events of the year.
