Charlotte Flair’s path to WWE SummerSlam 2026 may not be as straightforward as previously suggested. While Flair recently made it clear she intends to challenge Rhea Ripley for the WWE Women’s Championship at the August 1 and 2 premium live event, a new report indicates that WWE could take a different direction.
According to WrestleVotes Radio, WWE creative has internally discussed a singles match between Flair and Jade Cargill for SummerSlam. At one stage, the bout was reportedly penciled into the card, though plans remain subject to change as the event approaches.

The idea of Flair facing Cargill has been building for quite some time. Their first teased interaction dates back to October 2023, shortly after Cargill arrived in WWE. During a backstage segment on SmackDown, Flair acknowledged Cargill and hinted that a future showdown between them was inevitable.
Since then, WWE has continued to subtly develop tension between the two. On multiple occasions, Flair and Cargill exchanged looks on SmackDown, signaling unresolved issues. Cargill also made it clear she sees herself at the top of the division, once telling Flair to move to the back of the line in the title picture.
Their rivalry escalated further at WWE Clash In Italy. Flair played a key role in helping Rhea Ripley retain the WWE Women’s Championship against Cargill. That moment added another layer to the growing friction between Flair and Cargill, making a one-on-one match a logical next step.
WrestleVotes added that WWE officials currently view SummerSlam as the ideal stage for this match to finally take place. Even so, the report stressed that creative plans can change at any time.
Flair and Cargill also shared the ring earlier this year during the May 2026 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event, where they competed in a six-woman tag team match. That appearance further advanced their on-screen dynamic.
While Flair has publicly set her sights on Ripley’s title, the possibility of a high-profile non-title match against Cargill remains firmly on the table as WWE continues to finalize the SummerSlam lineup.
