Grayson Waller Shocks NXT With Unfiltered Opening Promo

The July 28 episode of NXT was supposed to be a routine show, but Grayson Waller made sure that didn’t happen. Fans hadn’t seen him in a while, so when he opened the broadcast with a live microphone, the surprise alone set the tone. What followed was one of the rawest, most unpredictable promos NXT has aired in months.

Waller walked viewers through his career and didn’t hold back. He called Austin Theory “240 pounds of idiot” and mocked the gimmick he had with The New Day, saying he spent a year acting like he was at a funeral. He made it clear he wasn’t returning to sit in catering and collect a paycheck. He said he’s in the best shape of his life and wants the NXT Championship.

He talked about how the title used to mean something, naming stars like Johnny Gargano and Kevin Owens. Then he made his intentions official: he’s here to take the NXT Title. He asked who could stop him and singled out Cruz Montana, saying he liked the new name. Waller also took a shot at TNA, saying being at the top of that company doesn’t mean anything in 2026.

He then called out Tony D’Angelo and said he would send Tony home to his “ugly newborn baby.” A production assistant tried to wrap him up, but Waller refused and told Shawn Michaels to send out “one of his guys.”

Waller unloads on the NXT roster before the feed cuts

Waller kept going. He said the NXT men’s roster is soft and complacent. He claimed the women are running laps around them and that 90% of the men think they should be called up tomorrow, even though the best wrestlers in NXT are women. He took aim at indie talent too, saying the energy dies the moment you hand them a microphone.

Fans started chanting, and Waller snapped back, telling them to shut up because he was “cooking.” He said he’s starting to remember who he is and called himself the most underrated man on the roster. That’s when production cut his microphone.

Waller grabbed a camera and kept cutting a promo directly to fans. Before he could finish, the feed was cut and the show went to commercial. The segment felt unscripted, intense and completely unexpected — the kind of moment that shakes up a brand overnight.

Only time will tell what Waller does next, but one thing is clear: he’s done filtering himself, and NXT may not be ready for what comes next.
