Drew McIntyre is making zero effort to pretend that his legendary feud with CM Punk was purely acting, opening up in a candid new interview about his genuine disdain for his longtime rival.
Appearing on Bradley Martyn’s Raw Talk podcast to promote his upcoming ReelShort project, Agent of Shadows, “The Scottish Warrior” didn’t hold back when discussing his true feelings toward the “Best in the World.”
McIntyre: “I Can’t Stand Him”
While many wrestling rivalries are manufactured for television, McIntyre made it crystal clear that his animosity with Punk is completely authentic:
- No Love Lost: “He’s a piece of crap. I avoid him whenever I can avoid him,” McIntyre stated bluntly. “I can tell everybody, he’s a genuine piece of crap. I can’t stand him.”
- Balancing Heat With Professionalism: Even with their mutual hatred, McIntyre noted that they are able to put personal differences aside when WWE creative pairs them together: “I got writers telling me, ‘You’re working with that guy.’ And I’m like, ‘Alright, I can’t stand him but I know he’s very good at his job. I can’t stand him. You put us together, it’s magic for the audience, but also, we have to be professional and not pound each other.’”
Taking A Shot At Punk’s UFC Run
McIntyre also addressed what he believes would happen if their backstage hostility ever boiled over into a real, unscripted fight, taking a sharp jab at Punk’s notoriously difficult transition into mixed martial arts:
- On A Real Fight: “Because if we pound each other’s heads, I would murder him. Did you see him in UFC? It would look like that if it got real in there.”
McIntyre has remained away from WWE television since April as he focuses on external ventures like Agent of Shadows, but his latest comments prove that whenever he decides to return, his unfinished business with CM Punk is waiting right where he left it.
