Cody Rhodes has cleared the air regarding his relationship with Travis Scott, dismissing long-standing rumors of backstage heat following their physical encounter at WWE Elimination Chamber 2025.
Appearing on the latest episode of Complex’s Sneaker Shopping, “The American Nightmare” looked back on the viral segment in Toronto where Scott joined The Rock and a newly turned heel John Cena in laying out the then-WWE Champion. The angle left Rhodes with a legitimate black eye heading into WrestleMania 41, after Scott delivered a heavy open-handed strike.
When asked if Scott’s line of signature footwear had been banned from his home after the incident, Rhodes laughed off the idea, revealing his wife, Brandi Rhodes, never stopped wearing them.
“Well, the Travis Scott of it all, the pair that Brandi did wear those, and I don’t think she gave a damn that he put the big old- I don’t even know what we’d call his hand. It was like a frying pan. He’s got a big hand,” Rhodes joked.
Rhodes emphasized that no bad blood exists between them, adding that he would welcome seeing the Grammy-nominated artist return for future WWE appearances.
“And no, there was never any heat. We love Travis Scott. I’d like to see Travis Scott back doing something with WWE. He’s wonderful, but they were- They were, I think, shunned a little bit. Yeah, put them on ice for a little bit. But they’re great,” Rhodes stated.
The former champion also shared an untold story from that night, highlighting a gesture from Scott backstage that earned his immense respect. During the chaotic beatdown—which unfolded at ringside in front of rap star Drake—Rhodes lost his watch when it came loose during the attack.
“The wrestler bond was when I’m getting beat up in Toronto and I’m bleeding like a stuck pig and then Drake’s sitting in the front row watching. I never got to say hi to Drake, so hi to Drake, because that was a bummer,” Rhodes recalled. “So I was laying there getting my ass kicked, but my watch came off. I think John put it on his hand and he punched me with it and that was the whole thing.”
While trainers were tending to Rhodes’ injuries backstage, Scott made sure the missing time piece was recovered and returned safely.
“I then went to the training room. They’re stitching me up and they’re doing all this stuff. He is the one who got the watch. Travis is the one who got the watch, put it in his pocket, and made sure it got back to me. That’s man stuff. That’s pro. So I always appreciated that greatly,” Rhodes explained.
Though Scott was reportedly training for an official WWE match around that time, additional in-ring appearances never materialized following the event. Nevertheless, Rhodes made it clear the door remains wide open for future collaborations.
