Cody Rhodes Confirms New WWE Contract Extension, Plans to Retire with Company

Breaking details surrounding Cody Rhodes contract extension reveal that the “American Nightmare” plans to retire with WWE.

Undisputed WWE icon Cody Rhodes has officially broken “breaking news” regarding his long-term future in professional wrestling, confirming that he has signed a new contract extension with WWE.

While making an appearance on Andrew Schulz’s FLAGRANT podcast to promote his role as Guile in the upcoming live-action Street Fighter movie, Rhodes revealed that his latest agreement will carry him through the end of his in-ring career.

Cody Rhodes Plans to Retire with WWE

“I just re-signed with WWE,” Rhodes said. “I’ll end my wrestling career with WWE, but my wrestling career with WWE might continue because we are now, I just spoke to the New York Times about this, and this was such a great moment to share this, we’re now able to go do this stuff [movies, etc]. So say I do have another project, say I’ve got two other projects, whatever it may be. I’m able to take a step away, and I’m able to collaborate with WWE, and I’m able to come back home.”

Rhodes noted that while he previously held a specific age in mind for retirement, working under WWE’s current regime under Paul “Triple H” Levesque and Nick Khan has altered his perspective. He explained that flexibility in scheduling allows top stars to step away for Hollywood endeavors—such as Street Fighter, where he stars alongside fellow WWE star Roman Reigns—and return without sacrificing their standing.

Addressing his eventual timeline to step away from active competition, the “American Nightmare” reflected on his desire to prioritize fatherhood for his two daughters, drawing inspiration from his late Hall of Fame father, Dusty Rhodes.

“I don’t know when settling down is, but I can say this: My parents were there for everything, pretty much, at the time they needed to be there for everything,” Rhodes shared. “So I’d say like eight years old on through everything, every game, every event, booster club, all those things, I loved that they were there… I’d love that for my two girls. So with that, it means I need to get to work now.”

After departing WWE in 2016 to help establish All Elite Wrestling as an Executive Vice President, Rhodes made his return to WWE at WrestleMania 38 in 2022. Since returning, he has anchored the promotion as its top babyface, capping off his trajectory by capturing the Undisputed WWE Title at WrestleMania XL.
