Backstage Interest Growing Within AEW To Sign Sheamus

Following confirmation that former WWE Champion Sheamus (Stephen Farrelly) has officially entered free agency, interest is rapidly building within All Elite Wrestling (AEW) to bring the veteran star into the fold.

The prospective move comes after Sheamus opted not to sign a restructured contract extension offered by WWE management earlier this year.

Management & Locker Room Strongly In Favor

With his WWE contract officially expired, backstage reports indicate that interest in acquiring “The Celtic Warrior” extends from the front office directly to the locker room.

According to a report from WrestleVotes Radio, AEW management is actively monitoring his availability and is expected to pursue signing him.

  • Locker Room Support: Sources reveal that several prominent AEW roster members are actively lobbying internal management to bring Sheamus in, citing his veteran presence and physical wrestling style as a seamless fit.
  • Current Status: While interest across the promotion is high, there is currently no confirmation that formal contract terms have been agreed upon or signed between Sheamus and AEW executives.
  • Physical Condition: Sheamus has maintained a low profile regarding his immediate post-WWE plans, though he recently updated his public branding to reflect his real name, S. Farrelly. Addressing his health over the summer, the veteran assured fans that he remains on a rigorous training schedule and considers himself in “the best shape of his life.”

Part Of AEW’s Ongoing High-Profile Roster Expansion

Should AEW secure a deal with Sheamus, it would mark yet another major acquisition in an aggressive talent expansion campaign undertaken by Tony Khan over recent months.

The promotion has repeatedly reshaped its locker room with high-profile free-agent signings across every division:

  • Tag Team & Trios Divisions: At the end of July, the legendary Motor City Machine Guns officially joined AEW after hitting free agency. They were swiftly followed by Austin Creed and Kofi—now competing as The New Level—who made a historic debut at AEW All In London 2026.
  • Women’s Division: Former NXT UK star Dani Luna officially became “All Elite” after making her promotional debut at AEW All Out 2026 on September 26.
  • Imminent Men’s Additions: Former WWE United States Champion Ilja Dragunov is also reported to have signed with AEW following his contract expiration. While an official debut date has not been confirmed as international visa details are finalized, Dragunov is expected to arrive on television imminently.

Adding a decorated multi-time World Champion like Sheamus to this incoming class would further bolster AEW’s veteran depth as the promotion builds toward its upcoming television tapings and pay-per-view schedule.
