During the October 23 broadcast, General Manager Nick Aldis made the massive announcement that Kevin Owens will go face-to-face against CM Punk. The highly anticipated match will take place on the November 6 episode of WWE SmackDown, serving as the critical go-home show before Crown Jewel.
The official booking followed a tense, explosive sit-down interview conducted by Aldis. Punk immediately voiced his frustration, calling the meeting a monumental waste of time when he should be focusing on his upcoming Crown Jewel clash with Roman Reigns, openly blaming Owens for costing him the championship.
Owens fired back with equal venom, reminding his rival that Punk only received that opportunity because he interfered in their previous Toronto encounter. The Prizefighter claimed he had the match won until Punk’s actions cost him his own shot at the gold.
Punk accused Owens of being passive-aggressive for the last two decades. Owens countered by stating he was perfectly fine ignoring Punk for three years until their paths crossed, questioning why they were even fighting and asking if Punk simply wanted one more match.
Punk snapped back, declaring that Owens would remain a constant thorn in his side until he finally puts him down for good. Owens concluded by stating that being around Punk turns everyone into a miserable prick, noting that he has spoken to several people who warned him about what Punk is truly like backstage.
Aldis abruptly cut the bickering short to make the match official for the two-week mark. As the segment wrapped up, Owens delivered a final parting shot, mocking the setup and telling the General Manager to turn the chairs the other way next time.
The 11/6 episode of SmackDown will actually be taped on Monday after RAW. This will allow the WWE roster ample time to depart for Saudi Arabia ahead of Crown Jewel.
