Dana White Issues Medical Update On Jake Hager Following Severe Power Slap Eye Injury

UFC and Power Slap founder Dana White has provided an official update on former WWE World Heavyweight Champion and AEW star Jake Hager after Hager suffered a severe eye injury at a recent Power Slap event.

Hager competed at Power Slap 23 on September 17, losing via second-round TKO to Johnny Magna. The final blow delivered by Magna resulted in blood and fluid visibly leaking from Hager’s left eye, forcing an immediate referee stoppage. Hager was rushed for emergency surgical intervention that evening.

Speaking to media following the latest edition of Dana White’s Contender Series, White revealed that Hager is being sent to see a medical specialist in Florida to address the damage:

“Yeah, he went into emergency surgery that night, and then we’re sending him to a specialist down in Miami. There’s lots of unfortunate things that happen in combat sports. What you do is you make sure that you do all the proper medical testing before the fight, you have the right guys there during the fight, and you take care of these kids after the fight. I mean, it’s the biggest priority for me. Other than having great fights, the only thing I really give a shit about is that these kids are all safe and healthy.”

White previously commented on the severity of the injury during a live stream, describing it as one of the worst injuries he has witnessed across both UFC and Power Slap, while speculating that Hager may have suffered a ruptured tear duct. White also noted that he ordered the production crew not to broadcast video replays of the strike due to its graphic nature.

Hager, 44, joined Power Slap earlier this year following his departure from All Elite Wrestling. His overall record in the promotion currently stands at 1-2.
