Eric Bischoff Questions Malakai Black's Claims Of Broken WWE Promises

WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff has pushed back against recent statements made by Malakai Black (fka Aleister Black) regarding his departure from WWE, suggesting the former star may be confusing casual creative discussions with binding commitments.

Black recently opened up about his exit, stating that the hardest part was not losing his job, but feeling that a “mountain” of creative promises made to him failed to materialize. Speaking on his 83 Weeks podcast, Bischoff expressed skepticism over whether WWE executives actually guaranteed those creative outcomes:

“I don’t know Aleister Black. Well, I’ve had a couple conversations with him. Always found him to be a very pleasant, respectful gentleman and an interesting person… That being said, I find it hard to believe. Do I believe he felt as though, or the implications maybe he interpreted as promises with regard to what they might do creatively? Sure, that happens.”

Bischoff explained that uncertainty and frustration can alter a performer’s perspective, leading wrestlers to convince themselves of a version of events that softens career disappointment:

“It’s not that you’re fabricating it for other people’s benefit. You’re fabricating it to yourself because you want to feel better about your situation or you don’t want to take responsibility for your situation. I’m thinking to myself, what did you expect to happen? You’ve been at the plate three times. You’ve swung and missed three times. Maybe there’s another solution for you here as opposed to bitching about, you know, a promise someone allegedly made you… You got to take some responsibility.”

While Bischoff questioned the wisdom of publicly criticizing WWE after multiple runs, he noted that he relates to the emotional pressure of sudden career transitions. He urged fans and observers to give Black grace while he navigates his next career moves.
