Contract Expirations Expected in October for AEW Lower-Card Talent

All Elite Wrestling could see a shift in its locker room structure later this year, with reports indicating that several lower-card contracts may be allowed to quietly expire starting in October.

According to insights shared by Self Made Pro during a recent Self Made Session, AEW is actively evaluating its roster, with a focus on talent who have struggled to gain momentum or elevate their standing on television and Ring of Honor (ROH).

“And the people that are like that, I’m telling you for a fact, been told that when it hits October or later in this year, those are the people that are not going to get renewed,” the report detailed.

Pressure Mounts on Lower-Card and ROH Talent to Evolve

The report highlighted that talent positioning on the lower tier of the roster or primarily featured on ROH programming face the highest risk of non-renewal if they fail to stand out during limited television opportunities.

“When you’re in his position and you’re not pushed and you’re at the bottom of the roster and you’re mainly just getting opportunities at ROH, this is what you have to do,” Self Made noted. “You have to show out when you get a chance. You have to try to reinvent yourself. You got to be in the best shape you can be.”

Emphasis was placed on physical conditioning, character evolution, and proactive reinvention, warning that stagnant presentations during renewal periods could prove costly.

“You got to do something because you don’t want to be that guy that is in that position, and when people do see you, nothing about you has evolved or changed,” the report continued. “And there are many people like that. Worse off, they’re like, ‘Damn, when did this person get out of shape?’”

Quiet Contract Expirations Over Mass Releases

These revelations align with recent comments from Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer, who noted that AEW CEO Tony Khan generally prefers letting contracts expire rather than executing mass talent releases.

Rather than a single, high-profile release day, AEW is expected to gradually reduce its roster depth heading into the final quarter of 2026 by opting not to offer new agreements to underutilized talent whose deals reach their natural end.
