Current AEW International Champion Kyle Fletcher has reflected on his long-standing tag team partnership with Mark Davis as Aussie Open, addressing claims that both competitors have outgrown their original dynamic while offering an optimistic outlook on a potential future reunion.
Appearing on the Battleground Podcast, Fletcher was asked about fan perception that his singles run had surpassed his work alongside Davis. Rather than taking offense, Fletcher agreed that both he and Davis have evolved beyond the original version of Aussie Open, noting that any future tag team run together would naturally look completely different.
“I don’t know how to take that… Everything in life is about evolution and growth and we’ve just grown and changed into different people,” Fletcher explained. “I think if Aussie Open were to go and do a proper tag run again at some point in the future, after all this evolution and this growth, I don’t even think that Aussie Open would be the same Aussie Open that we’ve seen in the past.”
Looking Ahead to Potential Future Tag Team Runs
Having established themselves as key members of The Don Callis Family as singles competitors, Fletcher noted that the growth both men have undergone makes the prospect of a refreshed tag team run down the line an exciting scenario to imagine.
“I don’t think that makes sense so, I agree. I think we have outgrown that version of Aussie Open,” Fletcher continued. “But in that same regard, it makes me excited to see what a 2026, 2027, 2028 Aussie Open full-time tag team run would look like so, if it gets to happen at some point, I would be excited to see it.”
High-Stakes Title Defense at AEW All In
While a full-time tag team run remains a future possibility, Fletcher’s immediate focus is set on one of the biggest challenges of his singles career.
Fletcher is set to defend his AEW International Championship at Wembley Stadium during AEW All In, stepping into a high-profile Triple Threat match against fellow Don Callis Family stablemates Kazuchika Okada and Konosuke Takeshita.
