Following her absence from WWE television since dropping the Women’s Intercontinental Championship back to Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 42, a new update has surfaced regarding the in-ring future of AJ Lee.
According to a report from Fightful Select, WWE sources do not believe Lee has competed in her final match. However, there is currently no return date scheduled for her, nor does WWE creative have any active creative plans on the books for the former champion.
Creative Clarification Regarding Paige and The Bella Twins Storyline
Speculation around Lee’s return picked up traction online after Paige reignited her program with The Bella Twins. Following an attack by Brie and Nikki Bella on Paige at SummerSlam, fans began questioning whether Lee’s extensive history alongside and against all three women would make her a natural addition to the ongoing feud.
Despite the online chatter, Fightful Select noted that creative sources had not heard of any plans to insert Lee into the program. Furthermore, talent involved in the angle were reportedly unaware of any intention to bring Lee into the mix prior to Brie Bella suffering an injury. WWE is proceeding with the storyline focusing on Paige and Nikki Bella without Lee’s involvement.
Future In-Ring Horizons
While Lee remains off screen, WWE never framed her WrestleMania 42 title bout as a retirement or farewell match. Having previously expressed an open mind regarding future opportunities following her return to wrestling, the internal consensus remains that fans have not seen the last of Lee inside a WWE ring.
