WWE taped the August 28 episode of SmackDown following the conclusion of RAW on August 24 in Ottawa. The show looks packed with storyline movement, surprise appearances, and a chaotic finish. Below is a fully rebuilt rundown of everything set to air.
Kevin Owens opened the show with a promo, but things didn’t stay quiet for long. CM Punk interrupted him, followed by Gunther, and then Finn Balor. The tension between all four men led to a number one contender’s match being made: Kevin Owens vs. Gunther vs. Finn Balor later in the night.
Irresistible Forces — Nia Jax and Lash Legend — picked up a win over Tiffany Stratton and Chelsea Green. Chelsea was taken out by medics during the match but returned anyway, only to fall short as Jax and Legend continued their run.
Gunther later interrupted a meeting between Nick Aldis and Danhausen, adding another layer of chaos to the night.
Jacy Jayne scored a win over Paige, but the celebration didn’t last. Nikki Bella made a surprise appearance and jumped Paige right after the match, leaving her laid out.
Backstage, Blake Monroe tried to get through an interview, but Giulia cut it short by attacking her and leaving her down.
The main event triple threat — Finn Balor vs. Kevin Owens vs. Gunther — didn’t get a clean finish. Sami Zayn interfered, causing a disqualification. CM Punk ran out to even things up, but Sami smashed everyone with the title and stood tall to close the show.
