Pat McAfee Addresses Being Chocked Out by GUNTHER – During the post-WrestleMania 41 edition of WWE RAW, WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther confronted commentators Pat McAfee and Michael Cole over what he perceived as biased commentary. The intense segment escalated quickly when Gunther grabbed Cole by the neck, prompting McAfee to intervene—only to be choked out by “The Ring General” in front of a stunned audience.
While McAfee was removed from ringside to be examined by WWE officials, Cole managed to return and finish the night on commentary. Despite the frightening moment, McAfee was back on his talk show Tuesday, where he openly addressed the situation and gave fans an update on his condition.
“Thank you for all the positive prayers and vibes for this here neck,” McAfee said, explaining he had undergone evaluation at a local medical facility in Las Vegas. “I thought I might have something with the C2 or C3, something in the neck because of how it felt, but they said I was deemed A-OK.”
McAfee confirmed he did indeed lose consciousness during the chokehold, saying, “I certainly lost consciousness, as the entire world watched on.” He also gave a shout-out to his Pat McAfee Show crew, who attempted to get involved ringside, joking that “Boston Connor was going to naw on an Achilles” and “DBone actually puked ringside.”
Despite the outcome, McAfee made it clear he wasn’t going to back down, particularly after stepping in to defend Cole.
“I appreciate you guys getting in there as I was blindsided trying to stick up for Michael Cole as the Austrian asshole attacked me. There are security and there is nobody (helping) as I’m getting my life choked out of me. What am I supposed to do? I found out quickly there isn’t much to do when Gunther has that thing on you. I felt my body slithering away. You kind of disappear from existence.”
McAfee also issued a warning to those who mocked the incident: “Everybody who said they are happy it happened to me, I hope we meet in person so I can punch you in the fucking face.”
While it’s unclear if this will lead to a more active in-ring return for McAfee or if WWE will build toward a potential storyline confrontation, McAfee made one thing clear: he’s not going anywhere.
“You think you’re going to bury me publicly, and I’m gonna quit showing up? You’re wrong. You’re not going to mess with Michael Cole and get away with it.”
Gunther, who retained the WWE World Heavyweight Title against Jey Uso at WrestleMania 41, has since escalated his dominance with this attack. Whether McAfee responds physically or continues his role on commentary remains to be seen, but the incident has clearly added another layer to Gunther’s ongoing path of destruction.
