Naomi Opens Up About Potential WWE Hiatus to Start a Family – Naomi recently appeared on SiriusXM’s The Nikki and Brie Show, where she opened up about the possibility of stepping away from wrestling to start a family.
During the interview, Naomi reflected on the evolving discussions she has had with her husband about having children and how life circumstances have influenced her current thoughts on the matter.
At around the 15:37 mark of the show, Brie Garcia asked if Naomi and her husband have been talking about starting a family, remarking that the conversation has seemingly been ongoing for a decade. Naomi replied, “He’s been talking about it for a long time.” Nikki Garcia added, “Yeah. He was ready to lock it in,” with Brie following, “He was ready 16 years ago.” Naomi then shared, “But my step kids, they’re 16 and 18 now.”
Nikki expressed disbelief at their ages, to which Naomi added, “Jaiden is in college. Jayla’s next. So we’re also like, ‘Do we do it? Do we start all over?’ or you know, do we just ride this thing out how it is, which is great too, so I never thought I’d be here struggling with this decision. I always wanted kids young. I always wanted a lot, but now I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh.’ Your girl is getting up there. You know? I’m 37 and I’m like…”
Nikki then shared, “That’s when I had Te,” while Naomi reflected, “Whoa, like time. There’s no time. I got to figure this out, like, yesterday.” Nikki reminisced, “You guys, we were 20, and you’re younger than us, so think of this. We started filming Total Divas at 29, 28 or 29.” Naomi responded, “Nuts,” and Nikki agreed, “Nuts, so you must have been 25, 26. I mean, that’s kind of wild.” Naomi added, “It went by so fast. I can’t believe I’m like, you know, asking myself, struggling with that question, but I’m definitely leaning towards it.”
Naomi then revealed some of the health challenges she faces, stating, “I also have, like, I’ve had health issues. I only have one ovary, so even if I wanted to continue wrestling longer, my biological clock, I can’t. I have to.” Brie asked if Naomi would need to consider IVF, saying, “So, you would probably have to do IVF and you’d have to go through a whole process?” Nikki added, “Or surrogate or something?”
Naomi responded, “We have a lot to figure out, so I definitely, I won’t, you know, I have to step away and, you know, take care of my health, take care of myself and if we’re going to have kids, I have to start that process very soon, so with that on my mind, too, and on my plate, I think that makes, you know, my time left here even more special and valuable to me and that’s why I’m like, just so passionate about what I’m doing, because I really think this might be it.”
Naomi’s emotional honesty highlights the difficult balance many professional athletes face between their careers and personal lives, particularly when it comes to family planning.
Naomi was defeated by Jade Cargill at WrestleMania 41, but the story between the two is not over yet.
The Nikki & Brie Show airs new episodes every Monday and Thursday on SiriusXM and is available anytime on the SiriusXM app.
