Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff Launch Real American Freestyle Wrestling – WWE Hall of Famers Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff have officially announced the formation of Real American Freestyle Wrestling (RAFW), a new wrestling league blending elite amateur competition with professional-level production and storytelling.

Earlier this week, Hogan and Bischoff reunited in a black-and-white, NWO-style promo, teasing a mysterious “third man” joining their new venture. That figure was revealed to be Israel “Izzy” Martinez—a renowned wrestling and MMA coach—who will now serve as Chief Operating Officer for RAFW.

The promotion will feature eight men’s weight classes and four women’s divisions, with the debut event scheduled for August 30 in Cleveland. RAFW promises to pay athletes to compete, combining the grit of amateur wrestling with the flair and branding of professional sports entertainment.

Hogan credits his inspiration for the project to watching Wyatt Hendrickson defeat Gable Steveson for the NCAA National Heavyweight Championship in March, a victory followed by a celebratory embrace with U.S. President Donald Trump.

“When I saw that happen and I saw our President hug him, I went, OK, we are on point, we’re ready to go and instincts have prevailed and I smell victory,” Hogan told the Associated Press. “I think we’re right on track, brother.”

Though Hendrickson and Steveson are not currently signed to RAFW, Hogan hinted at interest in promoting a future rematch. Olympic silver medalist Kennedy Blades has committed to the league and is being positioned as the face of the women’s division. On the men’s side, Ben Askren and Zahid Valencia are confirmed participants.

Martinez, founder of Izzy Style Wrestling in Illinois, brings a wealth of experience, having coached UFC champions like Jon Jones and Holly Holm. As COO, Martinez will oversee athlete development and competition structure. Hogan will serve as RAFW’s commissioner, while Bischoff handles production and entertainment elements.

Speaking with Forbes, Bischoff explained the league’s approach: “World-class athletes, elite-level athletes, Olympic-level wrestlers, collegiate champions, but in a professional environment with a lot more entertainment.”

Hogan elaborated: “Well, I think Eric described it the best when he said if you think of The Voice. You do the backstories first, so the people care about the athletes… and then it’s up to the athletes to perform.”

With a blend of legitimate wrestling credentials, sports storytelling, and the promotional power of two iconic wrestling figures, Real American Freestyle Wrestling aims to carve out a new niche in the combat sports landscape.
